No guillotine? That’s okay! These fine folks are getting the work done for all of us!!

Use the list below to explore the various organizations that are advocating to eat the rich. There are many ways to get involved at the local, state, and national levels, and you can always start by writing your representatives in Congress!

Don’t forget: All together, now! Many hands make light work, and these big ol’ billionaires aren’t going to harvest themselves.

Current Efforts to Tax the Ultra-Rich:

  • Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has been a leading advocate of taxing the ultra-wealthy for decades, though he is rarely, if ever, joined by his Democrat or Republican colleagues. When you find out that the Billionaires are using their excesses to buy politicians via Super PACs, it is clear why most lawmakers avoid the topic of imposing a wealth tax.

  • Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is also a leading voice in both taxing the ultra-wealthy and protecting consumers. Senator Warren’s proposed “Ultra-Millionaire Tax” would only hit households with more than $50 million. This tax could bring in a proposed $3.75 trillion over a 10-year period.

  • One of the most important actions any citizen can take is speaking up to their elected representatives. Politicians run on platforms, but without direct feedback from their constituents, they often misinterpret what we want.

Call, email, or snail mail your representatives and tell them in your own words that you are okay with taxing billionaires and the ultra-wealthy. You can use the linked website to find the contact info of your Congressional representatives. If you don’t know what to say, you can borrow what we’ve written here:

Billionaires can give 5% more so the rest of us can have basic necessities. That money can directly improve the lives of regular folks. People made the products and maintained the society that allowed a billionaire to accumulate excess wealth. No person is “worth” a billion dollars when other people are struggling to exist. Please support current and future bills that will tax the ultra-wealthy.

Other orgs doing great work

  • Americans for Tax Fairness is a national organization rallying Americans to help create fair tax policies.
  • The Debt Collective is a debtors’ union fighting to cancel debts and defend millions of households – from housing and utility debt to student loan debt, this network of advocates is chipping away at billionaire profits through solidarity economics, democratic principles, and human-centric values.
  • Economic Policy Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that works to counter rising inequality. They advocate for a number of wealth taxes that could improve the lives of the working class.
